Adopted at the Eighth Meeting of the Mexican Movement of People Affected by Dams and in Defense of Rivers (MAPDER) in Huitiupán, Chiapas, March 11 to 13, 2011.
We, the 441 delegates participating communities and peoples of the Eighth Meeting of the Movement of People Affected by Dams and in Defense of Rivers, we oppose the authoritarianism of the Mexican state through its institutions imposes an unfair and development model predator natural and social life through the construction of dams.
Based on an extensive critique of the neoliberal economic organization for which the only really important is the privatization of profits and socialization of the costs (environmental risks, precarious jobs, health problems, etc.) MAPDER consider the that social and environmental injustice from achieving a decent life for our communities and peoples, so that:
demand, the final cancellation of the hydroelectric project and Chinina Itzantún, Chiapas. From this declaration, the affected members of the Huitiupán declare ourselves in civil resistance, to achieve our goals ...
